Women's Soccer Scores Bonivital Midfielder Marijka Yaschyshyn

The CMU Women's Soccer Program is very pleased to announce the addition of midfielder Marijka Yaschyshyn for the 2014-15 MCAC Soccer and Futsal season. The product of Winnipeg's Bonivital Soccer Club completed her youth career last summer and is currently competing with Winnipeg Women's Soccer League Premier side, Roosters FC.

As a U16 with Bonivital, Yaschyshyn helped the South Winnipeg Club to an undefeated regular season. In April 2013, her youth team participated in the Alabama University Showcase Tournament and had a successful run at the 2013 USA Cup in Blayne, Minnesota.

"Marijka has a real quality in her style of play and will definitely influence our team this season and in future years," says CMU Men's Coach Russell Willms, who has been filling the coaching vacancy with the women's team as the CMU Athletics Department works to secure a new head coach for the position. "Marijka is an excellent passer of the ball and is a confident decision-marker. She also has an eye for goal, which I think will open space and opportunities for her teammates as well."

Yaschyshyn was recognized by her high school, College Jean Sauve, by being selected Female Athlete of the Year in 2013 (Grade 11) and again in 2014 (Grade 12) where she compete in basketball, volleyball and soccer.

The CMU Women's Soccer Team competes in the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference (MCAC) and will begin conference play September 7th at home against the Red River Rebels at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex.
