Winman Middle Crosses Town to Join Blazers Men's Volleyball Program

The Men's Volleyball Team is pleased to announce the commitment of their second recruit of 2015-16, Winman Volleyball Club product John Nieckarz. The 6'4 middle spent the 2014-15 season as a red shirt with the University of Manitoba Bisons of Canada West and is looking forward to suiting up in uniform next season with the Blazers.

"John is a strong character player who is all about his team," said head coach Don Dulder, who will be entering his second year with the program, "he is an unselfish player who always puts others first, which will add to an already positive dynamic in our group."

A graduate of Winnipeg's River East Collegiate, Nieckarz began his volleybal development with Winman at age 12. His club team took home gold at Manitoba Club Provincials that season and followed it with provincial gold also at the 14u level. At 15u, Neickarz and Winman continued success in major tournaments, winning the provincial title and going on to Gold at the Club National Championships.

Nieckarz completed his Winman youth career with a National Bronze Medal as an 18u moved on to join the Bisons last season.

Individually, Nieckarz received recognition by being selected Winman's Most Valuable Player for his oustanding contribution in his 16u season.

"John is a high level of skill and adds a component of character that will be great for our team chemistry", added Dulder, "it will be a pleasure to have him with our program."

Nieckarz is also an accomplished beach volleyball player where he has won Manitoba Beach Provincials in 16 and under and 17 and under with partner Mike Corrigan. The two went on to have fourth and fifth place finishes at the Canadian Beach Nationals.
