The Pita Pit Male Blazer Athlete Of The Month - October

Congratulations to Ben Klassen of the Men's Soccer Team on being selected The Pita Pit Male Athlete of the Month for October. Klassen was a major factor in the stretch run for the Blazers that rendered a run of nine matches undefeated, beginning September 26th and ending, to the disappointment of the team, in the MCAC Conference Championship Men's Soccer Final when CMU was defeated 2-0 by The University of St-Boniface.

Along the way, the MBCI graduate chipped in with goals in a 3-1 win over Providence on October 17th and scored an important marker in the conference semifinals against Brandon University en route to a 4-3 win.

"As we went further and further into the season, it became clear that Ben was going to be an important player to get into our starting 11 regularly for his ability to compete for balls in midfield, join the attack and defend the goal," said head coach Russell Willms.

Going into the Championship final, Men's Soccer were undefeated on the season when the former FC Northwest player featured in their starting lineup.

"Ben became a player that all his teammates relied on and had confidence in," added Willms, "his personality and work ethic on the field meshed well with the players around him and those little intangible things are what make Ben such an important player for us."

With the outdoor season now behind them, the focus shifts indoors as the team will transition to futsal. The Blazers kickoff the preseason with an exciting new home tournament coming to CMU on November 20-22; the Canadian Grasslands Cup. CMU will compete against Lakehead University, Ambrose University College and Red River College in the three day event.
