The Pita Pit Male Athlete of the Month - February

Congratulations to Jon Hayter of Men's Basketball on being selected the Pita Pit Male Athlete of the Month for February. After missing two weeks of action to finish the month of January, the second year guard picked up right where he left off when he returned to the court this month leading his team to a surprise first round upset of the #2 ranked Providence Pilots in the 2016 MCAC Men's Basketball semifinals and posted a 33 point, 12 rebound performance in a narrow loss to the defending Champion, Red River Rebels in the Conference Finals.

"Jon has been the most unstoppable offensive player in the conference all season, " said head coach Billy Isaac, "he was a real leader for us this month and he stepped up in both games of the 2016 Final Fours and gave us everything he had to try to push us to a Championship win."

Perhaps the biggest shot of the 2015-16 Basketball season came on a Hayter jump shot late in the semifinal. Trailing 66-65 to the Pilots and with their final offensive possession, Hayter pulled up from 14 feet to shoot CMU into the lead with 4 seconds left on the clock. Those two points would be the Pinawa-native's 19th and 20th of the semifinal to lead all scorers and he also got it done on the glass with 12 rebounds as he pushed his team to a 67-66 upset and a trip to the final.

Hayter finished the season third in the conference in scoring, averaging 16.9 points per game and earned his second MCAC All-Conference selection.
