Men's Volleyball Starts 2018 With Something To Prove In Ontario

After an impressive second place result in the 2017-18 preseason in Toronto against some of the top Men's Volleyball programs in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Conference, the Blazers fly out of Winnipeg again on Thursday to challenge their eastern neighbours. For CMU, the challenge is more than about gearing up for the second half of their conference schedule, it is just as much about making a statement on behalf of the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference that they are ready to compete at a national level.

Thursday night may be the Blazers biggest test when they travel to Barrie to tackle the CCAA nationally ranked #2, Georgian Grizzlies. The Grizzlies are one of two teams in the OCAA who boast an undefeated record through the first half of their schedule and battled the Blazers to a 3-1 win in the tournament final of the 2017 Sting Challenge in October at Seneca College.

CMU will go on to Hamilton on Friday for another difficult match up, this time against the CCAA nationally ranked #13 Redeemer Royals who hold a 7-2 record in conference play through the first half of their 2017-18 OCAA schedule. On Saturday the Blazers close out their tour of OCAA competition with matches against the 2016-17 OCAA Champion, Mohawk Moutaineers and the St. Clair Saints. All CMU's matches on Friday and Saturday will take place at Mohawk College in Hamilton.

The Blazers return to their home court next Friday night to get settled into the second half of the 2017-18 MCAC season. The 7-1 Blazers meet the 0-8 Red River Rebels at the Loewen Athletic Centre at 6:00 pm. Note, beginning this January all MCAC Volleyball, Basketball and Futsal matches will see men's competitions take place in the earlier time schedule (usually 6:00 pm) and women's action in the later time schedule (7:30 pm or 8:00 pm, dependant on sport).
