Men's Volleyball Makes Impact With First Recruit of 2015-16

The CMU Men's Volleyball Team is very happy to announce the commitment of Dakota Collegiate's Makoy Penner. The versatile 6'4 attacker featured at left side and at middle in the Dakota rotation during his high school career, helping the Lancers to a 'AAAA' quarter-finals appearance in 2013 and 2014.

"I am extremely excited to have Makoy on board," said head coach Don Dulder, "He is a very intelligent player who will be versatile to our team and comes from one of the province's top AAAA programs."

While at Dakota, Penner received excellent coaching instruction from Phil Hudson who is recognized as one of the best boys high school coaches in Canada. A multi-sport athlete in his high school, Penner has also competed in curling, team handball, badminton and track and field; a big reason why Penner was selected Dakota Collegiate Boys Athlete of the Year in Grade 9, 10 and 11.

Penner is entering his first club season with Winnipeg's Impact Volleyball Club this winter. Previously, the attacker spent time at Winman Volleyball Club, a program very familiar to his new CMU coach. Last year, with Winman 17 and under, Penner helped his club to a first-place finish at provincials and a fourth-place finish at the Canadian Club National Championships in Edmonton.

"Makoy's extensive club experience will bring a lot to our team," added Dulder, "he is a team-oriented player who displays a visible passion and love for the sport."
