Men's Soccer Prepares For Epic Clash With Defending Champions

After taking all six available points from their opening weekend of MCAC competition, Men's Soccer is preparing themselves for a true test of their place on top the MCAC standings this weekend when they face both sides of the 2014 MCAC Men's Soccer Championship Final, Les Rouges of the University of St. Boniface and the Red River Rebels.

On Saturday afternoon at 3 pm, CMU travels to the new home of Les Rouges Soccer, Memorial Park in St. Vital to tackle the defending Champions. Fouth year midfielder, Andrew Letkeman is a veteran of many continental collisions with USB and believes that the team that has ended CMU championship quest in each of the last four years is going to see a better CMU team on the field than they have faced before. "I really believe that our skill in middle of the field is some of the best in our conference," said the confident three-time MCAC All-Conference selection, "Offensively, we will need to showcase our quick attacking and if we can maintain our organization at the back and team shape, we can keep their attacking threats to few scoring chances."

The turnover is short for the Blazers. Sunday at 12 pm CMU is away to Red River College where the Rebels are coming off a draw in week one to the Brandon Bobcats. "We don't know a whole lot about what to expect from Red River," said head coach Russell Willms, "I am expecting them to have some quick dangerous attackers, players with good understanding thoughout, but ultimately we know that Red River will be a team that will run, will be totally committed to winning and will pose a real challenge for us."

The next home game for CMU is next Tuesday night under the lights at John Scouras Field at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex when the Blazers host the Providence Pilots. Women's kickoff is scheduled for 6 pm and the Men will follow with an 8:15 pm start time.
