Local Legend Is New Men's Volleyball Coach

CMU Athletics is very happy to announce the hiring of Don Dulder as the new head coach of the men's volleyball program.

Dulder's passion for volleyball and coaching was evident over his career at Niverville Collegiate where we served as a teacher and coach for 37 years. During the span, Dulder's varsity boys captured 8 Provincial 'AA' Championships and were the only varsity boys team in Manitoba's history to advance two categories to compete at the 'AAAA' level. The Panthers did this a total of eight times; on four occasions finishing in the top-eight and twice, finishing in the top-four.

Dulder has been recognized for a number of coaching awards over his career; highlighted with an induction into the Manitoba Volleyball Association Honour Society in 2006 and in 2009 being selected the Manitoba High School Association Coach of the Year.

As a club coach, Dulder has found success on a National-level. In 2007 his 17U club team captured gold at Tier 3 Nationals, while his 17U boys advanced to the National quarterfinals  in 2009. The following year, in 2010, the same team finished fourth in Tier 1 at the National Championships.

This spring Dulder coached the Winman Legends U18 boys to a third-place finish at Club Nationals in Edmonton; a team led by the top-ranked boy's volleyball player in Manitoba, Carter Bergen, whose brother Adam currently runs the hard-court with the CMU Men's Basketball team.

Dulder's greatest coaching accomplishment on a national stage came in 2013, when he led Winman to a National Championship with the 17U boys.

"It is a pleasure to have Don join our men's volleyball program and to have his coaching presence in our Athletics Program," says Director of Athletics, Russell Willms, "Don is very well connected in the volleyball community, boasts an extensive coaching resume and comes with a passion for sport and people that fits well with what we are also passionate about."

The new head coach is eager to get connected with the players and prospective athletes. Prospective players considering playing in the MCAC with CMU, can email Coach Dulder at dduldermvb:@:cmu.ca to request information about a men's volleyball identification camp that will be held at CMU in mid-June.
