Women's Soccer Bring in Perennial Champion Desrosiers

The CMU Women's Soccer program is very pleased to announce the commitment of Keirra Desrosiers for the 2024/25 MCAC season. The Pierre-Elliott Trudeau Canadienne will take her talents across town from the East End to Tuxedo to suit up for the Blazers this fall.

A multi-sport student-athlete, Desrosiers represents her high school Canadiennes during both the outdoor and indoor soccer seasons as well as on the hardcourt with the varsity girls volleyball team. College Pierre-Elliott Trudeau competes at the "AAA" level of Manitoba High School Sports Athletics Association, but managed to punch above their weight class during the most recent WYSA indoor season when the team lost to the eventual winners in the semi-finals of the Championship Division. She has been nominated for a number of awards through school sports, ranging from athletic to leadership to academic merit, so it's quite clear the Blazers are bringing in another complete package student-athlete into the program with Desrosiers.

With her athletic talent split between sports as is so often the case with multi-sport athletes, Desrosiers has been playing her summer club soccer with East End Rec, formerly Park City prior to the pandemic season. The team has been perennial powerhouses in the Winnipeg Youth Soccer Association's outdoor season, having won the league title every year since her first season with the club at age twelve. On top of their regularly scheduled league play, the team has also performed well in the tournament format, taking home titles from the Boston Pizza Tournament in both 2022 and 2021, and before that the Snowball Tournament in Fargo, ND in 2020, which was a particularly fond memory for the newest Blazer. After starting her career at forward, Desrosiers has steadily developed more aspects of her game and made her way back in the field of play to now feature primarily as a defender. Expect to see her as a fullback or on the wing under new Blazers head coach Jason Moist, who will be managing the Blazers' roster for the upcoming season.

Desrosiers is excited about taking her game to the next level and getting to know new athletes and teammates at CMU. She is familiar with a lot of other student-athletes from across the MCAC, so taking the pitch with and against them once again will be a fantastic opportunity to continue her competitive sport journey. Connected to the Blazers through Blazers' Director of Athletics and outgoing co-head coach Cara Isaak, Desrosiers will be part of a revamped lineup looking to help take the team to the next stage and compete for the MCAC title once again. "Kierra is a great multi-sport athlete who is super coachable and has excellent instincts on defense," states Isaak, who intends to stay involved with the team. "In training so far, she's fit in really well with the team and has shown strengths at timing of tackles and solid distribution. She's ready for the challenge of playing in the MCAC!"

Blazers Women's Soccer last hoisted the provincial trophy in the fall of 2018, and will look to take another step towards capturing another title this coming season. The winner of the Manitoba Collegiate Athletics Conference earns the right to represent the province at the Canadian Collegiate Athletics Association (CCAA) National Championships at the conclusion of the outdoor season, which the Blazers look to accomplish now entering the fourth year that the MCAC has been fully included in the Canada-wide conference.
